What is Toy University?

It’s a little sabbatical project. Sabbaticals are meant for research, learning, inspiration, and making space for things that don’t fit in the everyday schedule. My husband is on sabbatical and he's busy researching and writing.

Rather than be jealous, I’m joining him! I’ve long wanted a little time to focus on learning as a designer.

While we are in Europe for a few months this autumn, I plan to set some time aside to knit other designer's toy patterns. I want time to play around inside other approaches, learning from other designers' ways of thinking.

Join me! I’ll be doing research on construction methods, phrasing, page layout, and more, but you can just have fun.

The general plan

Knit any toy. Show off your little creation. Join the conversation. What did you learn? What did you like? What surprised you?

Or just show up for the chats. We just like having each other around. (Meetings will also be recorded and posted.)

We will meet on Zoom at the beginning of the month. Also, we’ll have a special chat area in the Discord group for Toy University. Post photos, ask for help, etc. Starting in mid-to-late August. I won’t be able to keep an eye on it before I deliver a few deadline projects.
