What excites you about the GAL? What’s your favourite part?
Answer: I love the shared making. Even though I help in the administration of the groups as a moderator, I also make gifts along with all the other makers. This shared sense of purpose and camaraderie is the best part of the GAL. I also completely enjoy working with my fellow designers for these six+ weeks. There is just so much darn design talent on Ravelry. I am always gobsmacked at the massive amount of lovely designs I see each year.
What inspires you?
Everything! My eye takes in all things. Form and color might do it; mythology or literature or history, or perhaps current events. It all gets thrown in the inspiration hopper. 😀
What’s your favourite thing to design?
I love to design cowls and sweaters and bags and jewelry. I cut my design (and making) teeth on shawls, so they also have a special place in my designing heart.
Are you a big gift maker? What’s your favourite thing to give?
Yes! The GAL is the one time of the year when I not only work up other designers’ patterns, but then get to decide to whom I will gift the spoils (and sometimes I keep a thing or two!). I do tend to gift a lot of cowls and shawls – both knit and crochet, in equal measure.
Tell us about your favourite yarn.
Well, I have been head over heels for Neighborhood Fiber Co. for several years now. Karida is an incredible person, and her dye pots just speak to me.
What’s one thing about being a designer that surprised you?
Just how entirely satisfying it is for me. Full stop.
