And here is the lucky birthday girl dancing during her photoshoot. She had been hinting, then outright lobbying, for this to be her birthday present the entire time I was knitting it, not knowing that was the plan all along! When she opened it at breakfast the reaction was all that I'd hoped.

I'm jealous. It's a fantastic piece: Bold stripes contrasted by bold lace; knit on the bias so you get flattering tips hanging down rather than the wide blunt ends common with stoles; big enough to fit easily around your neck, draping and folding with effortless style. I am very seriously contemplating knitting another one for myself. I'm part of a knitalong for the Harry Potter House Cup, and seeing all the different variations of colours people are putting together is making me love this pattern more and more.

Have you knit something recently that made you want to reknit it again and again?

  • That shawl has been in my queue for a while. Having trouble deciding colours. Yours is great. A very lucky birthday girl, indeed.
One pattern I love and have knit 3 or 4 times is the Vispo cowl. I still need to make one for myself so I’m going to knit it at least once more.
